How does it work?
Gentle TempGuard Ear Thermometer detects the infrared heat of the eardrum and surrounding tissues. It converts this heat into an equivalent oral temperature in one second. Why take a temperature from the ear?
The TempGuard Ear Thermometer is less threatening to a child than a rectal thermometer. It’s faster, safer and easier to use than an oral thermometer. What is the accuracy of the ear temperature?
A measurement taken in the ear indicates the eardrum temperature that closely reflects the temperature of the blood flowing into the hypothalamus (membrane near the eardrum). The accuracy is +/-.15C which meets regulatory standards. What will cause a low reading?
When readings are low the general cause is the temperature taking technique. We recommend that you practice with the TempGuard on yourself and family members when you are healthy. This way you can improve your technique and feel more confident of the measurement you take when ill. Always completely read the instructions before using the thermometer for the first time. A low reading can be caused by an ear infection. How long will the battery last?
The approximate battery life is 2,500 measurements. If the display shows the battery low symbol or nothing at all you should immediately replace the battery with a new Lithium Battery Type CR2032.
