While organising your room will be at the bottom of your priority list, it can definitely make a difference to your mood when you wake up in the morning in a neat and tidy space.

There is a low budget when it comes to cleaning as students will not have a lot of money. But you have to still get used to certain habits so that you can keep the room clean with minimal effort. Cleaning of the room shouldn’t take more than an hour and if it does, it is something that you will lose interest in. So you need to make sure you have all the cleaning supplies ahead of time so that you don’t spend time looking for them. You can simply keep a small basket in the room carrying some basic commercial cleaning solution, paper towels, brushes or dryer sheets. If you want to go for a homemade cleaning solution, you can make something out of baking soda, vinegar and lime. It will be cheaper to make as well.
If you are sharing the room with a roommate, you can speak to the roommate about the cleaning arrangements so that you can share the duties. It is best to distribute cleaning tasks and other chores between yourselves so that it is clear to both of you which task is whose responsibility. When cleaning the whole apartment, both of you can do it together. You need to have a waste bin to throw away trash and it has to be removed regularly. When the trash is not disposed of there will be a bad odour throughout the entire space. There may be pests that you want to get rid of so you can invest in some pest repellent. You can also speak to your resident advisor about what you can do to get rid of pests.
The small things count so you need to get in the habit of doing certain things at the right time. Make sure to make the bed when you get up in the morning so that you don’t come back after your classes to a rumpled looking bed. You can vacuum the floor to get rid of dust and allergens but make sure that you do this at a good time. It is never a good time to vacuum early in the morning. So you can schedule it at a time when the dorm is mostly empty or at a time when there is a lot of noise. You have to put away your things once you use them so that you don’t keep on piling up stuff over the table. After some time, you will not be able to see the surface of the desk. When you do these small things daily, there is very little mess to clean up at the end of the week.
