www.memfox.com/welcome.html
I was first introduced to this site by my 7 year old daughter. She came home from school delighted to have been introduced to the world of Mem Fox. As an avid reader my daughter has followed this passion in my footsteps, much to my delight. Mem Fox's site has some great tips for potential writer's and don't miss her 10 Read-a-loud commandments.
Internet Protection for your Kids
As mums we have often discussed the issues we are going to face & are starting to face with our kids and the internet. Recently the Australian Government released a publication that we have taken the time to read & think is worthwhile being aware of. They also have a great website with lots of informaton about what to look out for with your kids & internet usage. http://www.netalert.gov.au/home.html
Talking to your kids about drugs
Another Government site ... but really it has some great stuff for parents when it comes to drugs & your kids. When asked one of your top ten fears recently Drugs was one my first one. I am so concerned about what is out there for our kids. Hope this helps keep your informed. http://www.drugs.health.gov.au/internet/drugs
Product recalls, Safe Toys, Consumer information
www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au This site has some great publications on what toys are safe for kids. They also have lots of other interesting facts that are worth reading about safe blinds & curtains, tutors for kids. Worth a look.
Geocaching - GPS Treasure Hunting
Geocaching – What is this unusual sport/hobby? I was walking along the beautiful Fernleigh track in Newcastle recently and came across a family out searching for a cache. What was this all about? What’s a cache? Well I had to google it to find out what this treasure hunt was all about. Basically you log onto a geocaching website and find a location near you or near where you would like to go put the co-ordinates into a GPS, don your walking shoes, grab your drink bottles & head for a day with the family in the great outdoors. www.geocaching.com.au
